Specialized Therapy Offered at NBCG

Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)
ART is a brief, exposure‐based psychotherapy primarily designed to address trauma and post‐traumatic stress. It uses rapid eye movements and guided imagery to help clients reprocess distressing memories and reduce their emotional impact.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
ACT is a form of cognitive–behavioral therapy that encourages individuals to accept internal experiences and commit to behavior changes aligned with their values. It integrates mindfulness practices to foster psychological flexibility and well‐being.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
CBT is a structured, time-limited psychotherapy that helps clients identify and challenge negative or distorted thought patterns and behaviors. Through cognitive restructuring and behavioral experiments, it aims to reduce distress and develop more adaptive coping strategies.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
DBT is a cognitive–behavioral treatment originally developed for individuals with borderline personality disorder but now used more broadly. It combines mindfulness techniques with skills training in distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness, balancing acceptance with change.

Eclectic Therapy
Eclectic Therapy is an integrative approach that draws from various therapeutic models and techniques. Therapists using this approach tailor interventions based on the unique needs of their clients, combining elements from different modalities to create a personalized treatment plan.

Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)
ERP is a behavioral intervention commonly used in the treatment of obsessive–compulsive disorder and certain anxiety disorders. It involves gradual, controlled exposure to feared stimuli while preventing the typical escape or compulsive response, leading to reduced anxiety over time.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
EMDR is a trauma-focused psychotherapy that assists clients in processing disturbing memories. By combining recall of traumatic events with bilateral stimulation (typically through guided eye movements), EMDR promotes adaptive information processing and alleviates trauma symptoms.

LGBT Affirmative Care
LGBT Affirmative Care is an approach that provides a supportive, culturally informed, and nonjudgmental therapeutic environment specifically for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals. This care model addresses unique identity-related challenges, combats stigma, and promotes resilience and self-acceptance.

Mindful Parenting
Mindful Parenting applies mindfulness principles to the parent-child relationship. It encourages parents to remain fully present, nonjudgmental, and compassionate when interacting with their children, helping them manage stress, respond rather than react in challenging situations, and foster healthy emotional development in their kids.

Mindfulness
Mindfulness-based approaches encourage individuals to cultivate a nonjudgmental, present-moment awareness. By practicing mindfulness techniques—such as meditation and focused breathing—clients can reduce stress, improve emotional regulation, and enhance overall mental health.

Motivational Interviewing (MI)
Motivational Interviewing is a client-centered, directive counseling approach aimed at resolving ambivalence and bolstering intrinsic motivation for change. Through reflective listening, open-ended questions, and empathy, MI helps clients move toward positive behavioral change.

Parent Management Training (PMT)
PMT is an intervention designed to equip parents with effective strategies to manage and modify their child’s problematic behaviors. By focusing on reinforcing positive behaviors and setting consistent consequences, PMT is often used with children facing disruptive or oppositional behavior issues.

Play Therapy
Play Therapy is primarily used with children, utilizing play as a natural medium for expression and communication. In this approach, therapeutic play techniques help children process feelings, work through conflicts, and build coping skills in a safe, nurturing environment.

Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)
TF-CBT is an adaptation of traditional CBT specifically tailored for individuals—especially children and adolescents—who have experienced trauma. It combines trauma-sensitive interventions with cognitive–behavioral techniques to help process traumatic memories and reduce trauma-related distress.
