Mental Health Counselor
Nick Mathis, an ACMHC mental health counselor, graduated with a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Human Services from the University of Phoenix. He is currently continuing his education there and eagerly anticipates graduating with honors with a Master's Degree in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program in August of 2018. Nick has education and training in diverse counseling areas, including human growth and development and family, couples, individual, adolescent, and child counseling. Other areas of education include group work, substance abuse, and career development.
Nick is currently sharing his internship at a secure facility for sentenced adolescents. Through individual and family counseling, Nick helps these young clients develop consequential thinking, emotional regulation, positive identity development, relationship repair and improvement, and mindfulness coping strategies.
Nick gained extensive experience with at-risk youth while employed for five years at a day treatment program for children ages five to twelve with a focus on behavioral management. Nick's history of experience also consists of many years in the geriatric medical field and a completed Practical Nursing Degree.
While at NBCG, Nick intends to deepen his experience, knowledge, and efficiency in applying Behaviorism and other Cognitive Behavioral Therapy approaches with children and their families.
